Ben Affleck: Taking On Batman Was Daunting

Ben Affleck has admitted it was "daunting" taking on the iconic role of Batman in the new mash-up with Superman.

The star plays the caped crusader opposite Henry Cavill's super hero in director Zack Snyder's action film Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice.

Speaking at a news conference in Beijing, Affleck said: "The biggest challenge going into was the sort of daunting aspect of playing a character who's got such a fixed place in people's minds already. You know people's expectations. I think that was the biggest challenge.

"I didn't get to create the character. I had to sort of recreate something and hope that it fit into people's, our idea of who Batman was already and hope that they would accept my nuances on it."

Affleck was joined by Cavill and Snyder in China on the first stop of the global promotion tour.

Cavill, who returns to the role of Superman after pulling on the red cape in 2013 reboot Man Of Steel, said that for him, the new film brought a challenge of a more physical kind.

"The idea behind Superman, for me, in preparation, doesn't really change from movie to movie. But with this one particular, it was having to work doubly hard in the gym, because I knew I was going up against Ben, and Batman," he explained.

"I had to make sure that I was a fair match."

Affleck famously beefed up his physique prior to shooting the film.

Snyder, who also directed Man Of Steel, said he is as excited as fans to see Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman together in one place for his movie.

"It's true that you get caught up in the sort of technical part of it. And you forget that it's historical, you know, to see Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman in a single moment, standing there," he said.

"You know, for me, a bit of dork, you know, I was like 'That's got to be the coolest thing I've ever seen'."

:: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is released in the UK on 25 March.
