Want to Grow a Culture of Work, Australia Cut Unemployment Benefit

Jakarta - Australian Treasurer Joe Hockey said the changes to unemployment benefits in the proposed 2014 national budget on Tuesday ( 13/05/2014 ) night , is intended to foster a workplace culture from an early age among young people of the country.

Minister Joe Hockey asked young Australians to " income " or " learning " , with unemployment below the age of 25 years will receive less benefits than before .



" Creating a culture of benefits since they left school would only weaken them in their lives , " said Hockey told ABC .

" We still have a social safety net which is now the focus is on providing incentives to work or study than immediate hope allowances , " he said .

In addition , under the new state budget , every patient who visits the doctor also will be subject to an additional payment worth 7 dollars .

" The concept that a visit to the doctor is free is not real , because during every visit to the doctor is paid by the tax money of the people , " said Hockey .

Hockey minister also explained that the increase in the defense budget can be justified even though there are cuts in other sectors .

" We do not know what will happen , the traditional threat to our nation is not in an invasion of another country , " he said .

" But we are big budgeted for cyber - security and other things totally different that could threaten our national security , " he added .
